Synopsis

There's no mystery to the appeal of Armik's sun-warmed, note- dense excursions on guitar. An Iranian native of Armenian descent now living in Southern California, Armik sets his new flamenco works aglow with a blend of passion and craftsmanship that exudes an authentic, old-world character plus a beguiling, gypsy-like charm. It is an inviting combination that reliably draws in mainstream fans of contemporary instrumental music who are attracted to new flamenco's more exotic colorings. Armik's principal distinguishing quality is the sometimes-startling quickness of his fingers, which are capable of producing great swarms of notes that almost render listeners dizzy. On this, the former jazz guitarist's sixth recording, Armik elects to use a different guitar on each of the disc's 12 tracks, though it's a nuance that ultimately matters little and will be lost on most listeners. The attraction remains the earnest, old-school inclinations of Armik's compositions and their almost unfailingly upbeat disposition. Traditional flamenco listeners will likely continue to shrug off Armik's playing, but casual listeners will just as likely remain impressed by his dexterous, energetic displays. Expect another string of five-star listener reviews for this consistently appealing performer. --Terry Wood

Recycling Melodies

"As much as I love Armik and his magnificent guitar techniques, but unfortunately, he has been recycling his melodies lately. Many of the pieces on this CD are either the exact copies of his previous works or have been modified slightly. That is a shame for such a super artist. He needs to take a break from producing a new CD every year, and create new masterpieces.
A big Armik fan,
Farhad"

"Sounds very much like other albums. Same type of music just variations on melody. Pleasant to listen too but nothing new."

"The cd cover caught my eye as I roamed through the cd section. I have been exploring other music interests besides Jazz and Latin. The first track "Lovers in Madrid" took me on a journey to a candlelit cafe along the banks of a river, under a midnight blue sky with stars twinkling above. I could image myself there listening and watching Armik play. I listened to the wole cd before leaving the bookstore. But vowed to come back to purchase this cd. Which I am happy, I did, it was the last copy on the shelf. I recommend anyone who is a lover of guitar, romance and serenity to pick this up."
