"I'm not a big fan of tenors, so buying this album is something of a departure for me. However, after a long conversation with a friend who assured me that I would love Aragall's voice, I took the chance. She won me over to the idea by telling me that Aragall was a tenor who sounded like a baritone, a concept I couldn't quite get my head around until I heard him, and finally understood that a baritone voice differs from a tenor one in far more than just range. (This may seem obvious to many readers, but it was something of a revelation to me.) There's a rich, velvety quality to Aragall's voice which appeals to me far more than the tenor sound which I perceive as brittle and far too bright in most cases.
Aragall should be more well known than he is, though I understand from my friend that he retired early for personal reasons. I think this is a great loss. There are very few recordings of his work; thank goodness there are even a few out there. Take advantage of this one, and get to know a remarkable tenor voice."
