In The 3 to "5 Star" Movement
Matthew Walsh | Glenside, PA | 12/18/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Anthrophobia is a band I've been following for a very long time. They seem to follow the same musical philosophies that I look for in a band - adapt a wide variety of influences from the past, mold them to form your own unique sound in the present, and keep searching for new influences to progress your sound in the future. They're not quite Alternative, not quite Metal, and not quite Hardcore, but a mixture of all into a style that has thus far only been defined one way - Anthrophobia. They've always seemed to be a few steps ahead of what's currently "hip", and their slot on the Warped Tour a few years ago seems to have helped in their soaking in of more styles. "In The Zero To Three Movement" has the band adopting a bit heavier sound, resulting in some of their best material yet. The guitarist also does a lot of cool effects. The vocals are aggressive, yet coherent. He also used a few other vocal styles, which gives the disc a good mix. Tunes like "Gathering Dust" and "Gung-Ho" have riffs that are destined to get the hardcore fans moving, "Mercury" sounds almost like a modernized version of Gustav Holst's piece "Mars, Bringer Of War". One of the brightest spots on this disc is their cover of The Cars' "Moving In Stereo." If I didn't know the song already, I would never have guessed it was a cover, which is exactly how covers should be done. They also brought back one of my all-time favorite Phobia tunes from their demo days in "Blindsided". The revamped version has a bit more of a hardcore feel, and is a definite improvement to what was already a great song. (Now if only they'd bring back "Going Thru The Motions", my life might be more complete). The unique mixture of styles makes Anthrophobia a band accessible to many different types of people. Anyone into hardcore, metal, or some of the harder edge alternative music should definitely check these guys out, as they are writing material much better than what the majority of their major label peers are putting out."
The year 2000 Might just be Phobia's year.!

"I heard about this band forever.Living in Pa.,everyone has heard of ANTHROPHOBIA.Yet,they are still kind of a mystery. They had a bunch of hard to find 7'singles and tapes floating around a long long time ago,(the Framework cd-ep isn't that great,Pulse was better)they'd play a lot, then disappear for a while, change members, play at weird times or weeknights, etc. But, everyone I know that saw them always would say how unbelievable they are.Well,I finally saw them in York,Pa. in the spring of'99.They were better than any band from Pa.I ever saw(Not quite as good as LIVE but a lot more entertaining than FUEL.)The crowd was a lot of young kids(unlike me, I am 20).Then they disappeared on tour or whatever. Finally,The cd they spoke of that night is finally out.If you like great, emotional, heavy, modern rock you'll love this band! The CD is my favorite of the year.Everyone should listen up cuz the year 2000 might belong to Anthrophobia. You've been warned."

"Last I saw these guys was at Warped Tour'98 in Philly. As a 5 piece band,a year later,a new cd minus the kid guitarist and Anthrophobia have never sounded better.I got the cd on a whim.I saw it on the shelf.Had a flashback to their great set last summer and bought it.I actually rememered them playing"Knockout" and "Gathering Dust"(at the time unreleased, and happily both are on the new disc) I am glad I bought this, it really does rock. Not for the narrow-minded hardcore purists, this has more than just mosh parts and break down sections...."In The Zero to 3 Movement" has actual "songs"! I'll call it,hardcore for the open-minded,thinking man's mosh music."
