CD Reviews

A long way to "The Long Way"
p. silverman | USA | 01/10/2004
(3 out of 5 stars)

"Yes, the title song, the album closer, is the best song. Unlike most of the CD, the production is minimal and with the upfront, intimate vocal, conveys the melancholy sentiment beautifully. Anna is a sensual stylist and interesting poet who finds beauty in the commonplace (the freeway, the subway, etc.) and does not need cliched overproduction.
"I'm Not Defeated" is the second best track, a stunning statement of humility and resolution, somewhat reminiscent of "Love Has No Pride": the message is, I tried to change my surroundings to change myself and it didn't happen...this time - I'll be back a little older and wiser.
"Always The Same" is the most commercial cut, very much in the style of Sheryl Crow.
Maybe the remaining seven sounds will grow on me. Right now I'm appreciating the three above-named tracks and the nice photography (on the jacket and in the booklet)."

"I've had Anna's cd for a good while now and it's absolutely amazing! She has a fresh sound that is definitely addicting. I'm usually drawn to artists who have something unique about them and their music and that definitely fits Anna's style. The cd definitely doesn't dissapoint. My favorites are "Broken", "Crave", and "The Long Way"..but I LOVE them all! I can't wait to see how far this cd takes Anna!"
New Artitst Grammy Material

"I have been a big fan of Anna Wilson's for a few years now and have always thought her earlier material was worthy of mass audience appeal, but this debut album blows me away. It raises the bar considerably for all female artists in the Pop/Adult Alternative catagory. I have well over 700 CDs in my personal collection and about 20 of those I consider classics and play them once every few months to get my fix. The Long Way is one of those albums. Look out Sheryl Crow, Stevie Nicks, Sarah McLachlan and Nora Jones....there's a new Star in town."
