CD Reviews

Well Worth IT

"WOW! That In a Word says it all! This set is aimed at collectors. If you arent absolutely crazy about Ann Margret then I doubt you will love this set, but If you are, hold on to your hat, cause this is out of this world! This is pretty much everything Annie recorded for RCA Victor during the sixties, its all here, the fantastic LPs the hard to find 45s some of which took me forever to obtain.

In this set, youll get the holy grail for all AM collectors the recording of I aint gonna be your fool any more, most of you will remember this was the song "Ann-Margrock" sang on an episode of The Flintstones, in addtion you get The littlest lamb, the lullaby that she sang to little Pebbles on the same show. You get fun AM songs such as Hey little Star and Man's Favorite Sport (one of my fave 45s) Country songs such as My Last Date With You and What Do You Want From Me, and Rock out Mod 60s tunes such as Someday Soon and He's My Man. The girl sang it all Sountracks, Easy Listening, Rock.

Contrary to what "others " might think she has some of the best pipes in the business, and she shows it on songs such as As long as he needs me from Oliver (listen to the ending of this one, its amazing!) She tackled some of the toughest songs such as More and The Good Life and held her own! I only wish I had the type of friends who went out and plunked down a hundred bucks on a CD set.........just because.

The set is top notch exactly what we have come to expect from Bear Family, sound quality is terrific, packaging is wonderful, and you get a book with the set, not a booklet but a hard cover BOOK. While I admit the pictures they used are just ok, its mostly outtakes from photo sessions which they used for the Pleasure Seekers and On the Way Up. Its still very nice and its in full Color.

To sum it up, its well worth the price, and you can never ever get too much of Ann-Margret. I only wish there were MORE!

The Underrated Pop Sensation of the 60's...

"...and Bear Family records of Germany has done it again with this boxed showcase of all Ann-Margret's RCA Victor sessions from the decade of the sixties. After listening to these sensational tracks on 5 CDs, there will be no doubt that Ms. Margret's talents were at their peak behind the mic; but there's no doubt that many a dude will have her luscious image in mind while listening to this bachelor pad masterpiece collection. To help out with that are some vivacious sexpot poses in a stunning hardcover book that accompanies the CDs. Ann-Margret was truly an underrated pop princess, and it's surprising that RCA failed to make much of her recording career, especially since she was one of their rare female pop artists when the stereo LP became de riguer. She put real meaning into RCA's LP trademark: DYNAGROOVE!

Some of the tracks that make this worth the price of admission, for those not strapped for cash:

TEACH ME TONIGHT, THE BEST IS YET TO COME, BACHELOR IN PARADISE, WHAT DID I HAVE, BEGIN THE BEGUINE, SENOR BLUES, MR. KISS KISS BANG BANG and the piece-de-resistance, her rare recording of Andre and Dory Previn's THE SWINGER in stereo! So hot!
