Synopsis

Album Description
Digitmovies continues to travel through the wide musical prairies of the Italian Western by releasing for the first time the complete OST by Angelo F. Lavagnino for the classic Italian Western of 1968 "Oggi a me...domani a te!" (aka" Today We Kill, Tomorrow We Die") directed by Tonino Cervi, scripted by Dario Argento and starring the American actor Brett Halsey, the Italian actor Bud Spencer, the Austrian actor William Berger and the Japanese actor Tatsuya Nakadai (well known for performances in some films by Akira Kurosawa). After having completed a long sentence, Billy Kiova (Halsey) wants to take revenge on Elfego (Nakadai), the man who murdered his Indian wife and framed him for the murder. Elfego in the meantime has become a ferocious ringleader. Kiova hires four pistoleros including O'Bannon (Spencer) and Colt Moran (Berger) and he leads the band for the hunting of the bandit. After a wild final duel the bandit Elfego is killed. This CD (approximately 45 minutes) is possible thanks to the original mono master tapes preserved in fine condition in the C.A.M. archives till now and it contains every single note recorded for the film in very good mono sound. Five selections from this OST already appeared in France in 1988 on a compilation album (both vinyl and CD - EVB 101). Legendary composer Angelo F. Lavagnino, author of hundreds of scores for the screen, has written a really essential, minimalist style OST made up of supended, magical, mysterious and semi-psychedelic atmospheres performed by organ, vibe, guitar, brass and every type of percussion with a sparse, but effective orchestra performance. The CD begins with an epic western theme in a Beat style (Tr.1), reprised in Tr.3, Tr.8 and in the finale (Tr.21). The presence of the Japanese star Tatsuya Nakadai has surely influenced the OST regarding some sounds that recall those of the Japanese traditional theatre, as for example in Tr. 19. Lavagnino has written dramatic action music (Tr.6, Tr.7, Tr.13, Tr.14, Tr.18), a spirited march of military flavour for the character of O'Bannon (Tr.11) and a nostalgic love theme for strings highlighting the tragic memory of the protagonist's wife brutally killed by Elfego, the villain of the film (Tr.12). Another OST of the Italian Silver Age rightly rescued and preserved.
