Synopsis

Album Description
The songs on this recording were selected simply because I like them. A few of my favorite offerings are: Frishbergs Peel Me A Grape for its hip, sassy attitude; the strong emotional content and delivery of Dori Caymmis Obsession. Note the amusing role reversal on the tag of the classic Ellington standard, Dont Get Around Much Anymore, which also features Rod Fleemans sparkling guitar; the heart wrenching, incredibly haunting Jobim/Buarque composition Retrato em Branco e Preto, featuring the sensual accompaniment of the Latin jazz ensemble Musa Nova; and, the marvelous Bobby Troup blues tune, Baby, Baby, All The Time, showcasing Cartwrights dynamic piano and Stan Kesslers lively horn arrangement. Also enjoyable on this selection is the whimsical trombones intro to the scat solo. This intro is reminiscent of earlier times when the trombone was my instrument of choice. I hope that you, too, will enjoy this recording. I encourage you to find your hearts song, and sing out proudly! And always make time to FEEL THE MAGIC. Blessed be, Angela

OUTSTANDING!

""Angela Hagenbach is singing "You Do Something to Me" as a packed audience tilts in unison toward her impassioned jazz stylings. It's 10 o'clock on a Saturday night, and Jardine's, a club just a block away from Kansas City's renowned Country Club Plaza, is in full swing mode. With a friendly ebullience that is enhanced by her statuesque good looks, Hagenbach owns the room. It's no wonder she's one of the town's premier attractions." Calvin Wilson July, 1999I saw this opening paragraph in a story on the Kansas City Jazz scene in Sky magazine this past July. I have all of Angela's recordings and it was great to see her get top billing in a town where Jazz rules, and her Monarchy is adored by the masses. She is simply outstanding. In "Feel the Magic" you will be enticed by the many treasures this talented artist has to offer. Her approach will sometimes surprise you, and always please you. From the very first tune "Love For Sale" where her powerful voice gives a new perspective to the lyrics, to her simple, matter of fact, approach to "Easy To Love" where we get small taste of her exceptional scat abilities. "Baby, Baby, All the Time" will make believers of anyone previously not enamored to the attractions of the Blues. And of course my personal favorite "Peel Me a Grape" a song I've heard done a hundred times before. But hearing Ms. Hagenbach's rendition made me want to buy stock in all grape producers around the country. If I owned the concession stand at her concerts, I would sell grapes and I would be wealthy, it's just that simple. When these talents are combined with an incredibly tight and talented group of musicians you simply can't lose. Your wait has been much too long, give yourself a special treat and spend some time with Angela Hagenbach."

"In September 2002, I heard Angela live in Kansas City. Her stage presence and charm captivated me. Her voice and music enveloped me. After seeing her live, I purchased "Feel The Magic". I am now a big fan of Angela Hagenbach and feel that she is on par with other, more widely known, jazz artists. As do many artists, she revives and delivers some old favorites and standards. She also presents you with some of her own works as well."
