Andrew Downes' Concerto for Guitar, Bass Guitar and Strings was Commissioned by the Virtuoso Guitarists Simon Dinnigan (Acoustic) and Fred T Baker, Playing a Fretless Electric Bass Guitar and Breaking New Ground in Bringing this 'rock' Instrument Into a 'classical' Medium. They Are Joined on this Exciting CD by Players Mainly from the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. Other Works Include Cool Largo, also by Downes, the Usher Waltz for Solo Guitar by Koshkin, and Three Transcriptions of Works by Bach and Mozart. The Concerto is Much Influenced by Rock Music and Jazz, as Well as Non-western (Particularly African and Native-american) Melodic and Rhythmic Styles. These Are Blended with Sounds from the European Renaissance and Medieval and Folk Music to Produce a True Fusion of Cultures.
