CD Reviews

Incredible concert, poor DVD presentation
R. Suarez Giacoman | Mc Allen, Texas United States | 04/09/2007
(4 out of 5 stars)

"After so many years we are finally given a live DVD recording of one of the best Latin-American rock artists of our times. This was released in two presentations, both the DVD and CD case include the live DVD and an extra CD called `Made in Spain' that contains 6 extra tracks not included in the DVD that feature some performances with Ariel Rot (former companion in `Los Rodriguez')

The concert altogether is a collector's piece, Andres delivers some powerful performances accompanied by `Bersuit Vergarabat' as his band. There are two special appearances, Vicentico stands with him as they both sing `El cantante' (a favorite of theirs they have performed in several occasions) and `Vasos vacios', from Vicentico's period with `Fabulosos Cadillacs'. Then Litto Nebbia joins Andres to perform `Nueva zamba para mi tierra', `Yo no permito' and `Para no olvidar'.

Many classics are included and Calamaro gives himself to his audience, songs from all his career including `El salmon', `Media Veronica' (preceded by an explanation of what a Media Verónica is), `Mil horas', `Paloma', `Sin documentos' and many others. Calamaro delivers the audience one hit right after another. A memorable concert for us fans of Latin-American rock.

Why four stars then?

Well, even though the concert is presented in `Widescreen' it is not anamorphic (what was the point then?), so if you watch this on a widescreen television you will have to use the zoom feature in it to see it in full widescreen, which leads me to the second complain, the picture quality is awful, the digital transfer is very poor even for a regular television, I watched this on an HDTV and had to expand the image which made matters worse and had me end up with a pixel distorted image.

The concert is presented in both Dolby Digital 5.1 and PCM stereo.

An incredible concert and a memorable performance which unfortunately deserved a better DVD presentation.

One of the best latin rock concerts ever!
Boris A. Trejos | North Carolina | 03/09/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Andres Calamaro, considered by many one of the greatest singer songwriters to have come out of Argentina and Latin America in the recent years, delivers a powerful, passionate, nostalgic and totally over the top performance of 30 songs spanning his entire musical career from his beginnings with "los abuelos de nada" with a classic like "mil horas" to some of his best solo work with songs like "el salmon","flaca","estadio azteca","te quiero igual","maradona" y "tuyo siempre" just to name a few,and topping it all off with a few classic songs from his brilliant work with the magnificent spanish band "los rodriguez" with songs such as "mi enfermedad" y "sin documentos".

With songs as personal as his may be,(listen to "la libertad" and "alta suciedad" for proof of this),Andres Calamaro always manages to connect and move his fans at the core of their hearts due to the humble and sincere nature of his lyrics and evident showmanship exhibited throughout this entire concert in Buenos Aires.

This is truly one of the best latin rock music concerts you will ever get the chance to witness filled simply with great rock anthems delivered from the heart and sung by one of the greatest latin troubadors ever.

Do yourself a favor and buy this awesome show and while you are at it,pick yourself a copy of "el regreso" which is the audio cd version of this concert with 21 of these magnificent songs. You may also want to get

"hasta luego" which is his former band"los rodriguez" greatest hits,a truly amazing album too.

If you love latin rock, you will totally adore the cd's I just mentioned. You've been warned..
