Awe-inspiring

"This young woman can really belt out a song. I remember first seeing her on an MTV show hosted by TLC's Left Eye a couple of years ago and being thoroughly blown away by Anastacia's voice and stage presence. She may not have won the record contract at the end of the season of that show but she definitely had the voice and stage presence to attract the interest of Epic Records. Anastacia's powerful vocals reminds me a bit of Kristine W., another favorite female vocalist. Nowadays most female vocalists tend to either sound like a rodent with their measly squeaking or oversing to a point of sounding like a foghorn. Not Anastacia, she has full control of her voice and has the power to belt out sounds like "Not That Kind" and "I'm Outta Love". Her ballds are great too. I really like "Cowboys & Kisses". I can see great things for Anastacia if her record company actually utilizes this talented artist."

"Anastacia is a welcome change to what is about at the moment. I bought the album after not being able to get Not That Kind Out Of My Head, and im glad that i did. From the first track Not That Kind and to the last track Same Old Story, Anastacia shows why the whole of Europe is loving her music. There are great stand out tracks like Im Outta LOve and Love Is Alive and there are plenty of other good songs like Wishing Well, One More Chance and I Ask Of You. This is a great album and should be appreciated by everyone"

"It's not at all clear why Anastacia - an American, after all - hasn't already taken America by storm. Like the Fun Loving Criminals, she's big news the other side of the pond, but unlike the FLC, her potential stateside is, as far as I can see, unlimited. Like all latter-day pop stars, she has flawless good looks; like hardly any she writes her own material; like even fewer her songs are fantastic, and like no other, she can sing like STINK. The title track sets the pace: a tight, funky single shot through with attitude which completely belies the fact that it is being sung by a skinny little white girl. Good god this woman has a set of pipes. Comparisons are inevitably difficult, but I put her somewhere between Tina Turner and Gloria Gaynor. Now, there's only been one white artist who could sing like a black artist before, and he did alright for himself. (Stay away from the burgers, girl!)The flaw which deprives this album of its fifth star is the (overly glossy) production, and the curious decision to use a synth bass instead of a real one. If Not That Kind had a more honest, real-life feel to it - were it aimed at the Rock/Blues market and not the pop one, it would be a genuine world beater. As it is you git the feeling she's positioned herself in the market against Jennifer Lopez and Britney Spears, which is a real pity, because she's well out of their league. With any luck it'll be the next album which proves this.I'm sure looking forward to finding out."
