Knowing She Is Good

"Within the past year, there really hasn't been a whole lot of excitement with music. However, there have been some great acts that have thrived from the U.K. recently like Corrine Bailey Rae, and Amy Winehouse, which has had enormous buzz with her style and songs. Her breakout single You Know I'm No Good, from her debut album Back To Black is a very soulful and blusey sound that hasn't been heard lately on the radio. I like this song because it is different, and really gritty. I really hope the best for Amy, and I hope she keeps delivering great songs like this one down the road. We know that she sounds good.

"Amy Winehouse is an artist truly of a different era (and dimension). This song really displays her vocals at their smoky, smouldering best. Winehouse pays tribute to the girl groups of the 1960s in her soulful style, and adds a contemporary flavor to YOU KNOW I'M NO GOOD. She sounds too good to be that bad....yet, to quote the song, "You know that [she's] no good." You'll still love her, though."

"Amy Winehouse is a ground breaker. After buying 'Back to Black,' I immediately purchased 'Frank'. While the two albums feature different vocal ranges and stylistic approaches, I was more than hooked on both examples of Winehouse's vocal gymnastics. Winehouse goes from street to sweet almost seamlessley: she combines motown instrumentals, soulful bellows, and modern, sometimes adoringly dirty lyrics all in the course of a 3-minute tribute to such social staples as infidelity, juicy girls, and disappointing boy toys. Her songs lack convention, rigidity, and pretention. Needless to say, I'm a huge fan. Buy her albums. Make her famous. Demand a state-side venue. If nothing else, sample a song and try NOT to find yourself tapping/bobbing/dancing along."
