Synopsis

Amazon.com
On her third all-instrumental solo album, Alison Brown follows in the footsteps of Bela Fleck by liberating the banjo from its usual bluegrass and string-band context to juxtapose it with trap drums, keyboards and other unexpected instruments. Like Fleck, Brown often slows down her attack on the banjo so the melodic shape and tonal quality of individual phrases can be better appreciated. This invitation to closer scrutiny is justified by Brown's rare ability to control both the percussive and harmonic qualities of each note on the banjo. --Geoffrey Himes

Not your Grandpa's banjo music.

(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is just a wonderful album. A fusion of easy jazz, bluegrass and music from various parts of the planet. It seems as though this would be a difficult thing to do but Alison Brown pulls it off wonderfully. The end result is very different style of music. You are never going to hear this on commercial radio since they would never be able to catagorize it. This is a great album. I can listen to it over and over."
