CD Reviews

This is a great CD

"This CD defies classification. It is quite simply one of the best CDs' released in 1996. It has a nice blend of rockers and ballads. For a disk with no hits it feels as if every song should have been a hit or received some radio play. I am not a white suburban wannabe ganster, so in an era of loud thumping beats and abraisive lyrics it was a nice surprise to find a CD that had songs I could relate to. I had never heard of Alejandro Escovedo before this disk, I thought the cover was interesting so I bought it, now I look for his music whenever I go shopping. This disk will definately appeal to adults, and with a couple of listenings could be well received by the youth market."
Thoughtful play loud drink whiskey with lights low

"A varied and interesting program, although "Crooked Frame" is a better song to play when you're pissed off at 2am than "Pissed Off 2am." A songwriter who doesn't get cute for the sake of cuteness or lean heavily on the ever-growing choss pile that is alt-country-Austin cliche, Escovedo knows what he's doing. What I play when I'm driving across Wyoming."
Escovedo is amazing!!!!

"This cd is very very good and showcases Alejandro's great songwriting abilities combined with "from the soul" lyrics. It defies being lumped into any one style of music; it rocks, it twangs a bit, its folksy and earthy too - but most of all it's honest. If you like this cd you MUST hear Alejandro's "Thirteen Years" cd. One of the most beautifully crafted album ever. This is a singer/songwriter that is greatly under-appreciated."
