CD Reviews

ABSOLUTELY Stunning Recording - one of my best of 2009

"This will be one of my top picks for this year - a stunningly beautiful recital by an artist I have not heard before. Now, I hope he becomes much better known. I didn't think I needed more Chopin - but I was so wrong. This is inspired playing and a gorgeous recording. The sound is as good as any I've ever heard of the piano - reference quality. Rubinstein, Moravec, Michelangeli - move over there's room for one more. The amazing thing i this is a man who spent 30 years working as a translator - not performing before the public. I hope he spends the next 30 years performing & recording. This is one of those recordings where I found myself playing it over and over - what a discovery! By the way the recording is 2 cds - so a bargain. On the 2 cds are the 4th Ballade in F minor, Barcarolle in F-sharp Major, Fantasy in f minor, Sonata 2 in b flat mminor and Sonata 3 in b minor."

"That's what you might be asking yourself. 'Major' record labels seem to come up with new phenoms in their 20s every couple of months, so when a guy in his 60s essentially debuts with a Chopin recital one could be excused for feeling a bit puzzled. First, check out his website: it's nicely done and informative, affording details about his rather unorthodox (to say the least) background. But do listen to this album. I've been taking advantage of the Chopin bicentennial to acquire what I hope will be some memorable recitals and this one definitely fills the bill. This is amongst the cream of the crop. If you appreciate the Chopin interpretations of Ivan Moravec and Claudio Arrau, this is right up your street. Thoughtful, deliberate, wonderful dynamics--and recorded very well indeed. Really very impressive."

"Alberto Reyes' recording of Chopin, bought after hearing him in concert in New York in Spring 2010, conveys all the magic of the concert. It is highly personal, passionate and accomplished."
