CD Reviews

Quite An Upgrade!
JD Cetola | Omaha, NE USA | 01/26/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The Alarm have always been a great live band and this release catches them at their peak. This remastered release greatly improves upon the original by adding eight tracks recorded live in Chicago (Dec 1987), five of which had never been released before in any format. The original release of this disc (1988) was essentially an EP and is excellent in its own right, featuring six tracks recorded live in Boston (Apr 1987). This remaster pushes the total time to 77+ minutes and includes stomping live versions of "Knife Edge" and "Shelter", not too mention the previously available "Strength", "Blaze of Glory", and "Rescue Me". The songs from both shows are interspersed seemlessly on this disc and make for a coherent concert experience highlighted by Mike Peters' passionate vocals and Dave Sharp's searing guitar and are nicely augmented by Mark Taylor's keyboard playing. As is typical with this band, each song somehow seems more meaningful, more stirring, and more full of emotion in a live setting. And this disc captures 14 of them! Very Highly Recommended."

"...and of course one of the best live CD's ever. This remastered version is well worth the price because it includes 8 unreleased tracks compared to the original six. Great music from a great band."
