"This collection charts all the contradictions that made up Al. Green's "pop" career. The early tracks explore Green and Willie Mitchell trying to find the formula that would traform Green into a pop ikon. The hit came with "Tired of being alone" and from then on, with tweaks in the arrangements, the "A" sides follow that winning formula. It's the "B" sides that provide the underated gems. Try "Old Time Lovin'" and in particulalr "What a wonderful thing love is" as examples of his often overlooked pleading style. On CD2 check out "I'm glad you're mine" as the defining point where Green turns back to his faith. Is it a love song - or not?.Perhaps the most personal track is "Let's get married" - supposedly for Laura Lee. In "Full of fire you can hear Green as the preacher he became."There is love" signals the end of this phase of his "pop"career, and he went on to record the "Belle" album. This double CD is an absolute must in charting the changes that Green went through. Unmissable!"
