CD Reviews

AKA Project arrives just in time....
C. G. | Atlanta, GA | 05/16/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I hate radio. You never hear music like this on the radio...and it is truly a shame that the masses are probably going to miss out on this release, as it is somewhat of a revelation. I've had this album for a number of months now, and I have been eager to see if it would ever be officially released. Now that it's finally out, I am concerned that it may fall through the cracks. It's easy to lump AKA Project under acid jazz, but this album represents so much more than that. The group covers many bases here: house, jazz, lounge, soul, Latin...all combined and redefined to give us a smooth, coherent vibe that flows from the first track to the last (Amazon desperately needs to post some song samples). I do wish the group had retained the original "spy movie" cover art...the new cover doesn't have quite as much...panache. That's just me, though. A must-buy, especially if you are a fan of Jamiroquai's jazzier stuff...also try groups like AfroMystik, United Future Organization (especially the album 3rd Perspective), Groove Armada, and Akasha's masterpiece, Cinematique (when will Wall of Sound bring this one to the U.S.? They graced us with the Propellerheads and Wiseguys, after all!)....AKA Project is on the forefront of a new genre of electronica...my highest recommendation."
