The Change Was Good
Michael Butts | Martinsburg, WV USA | 02/08/2000
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Air Supply proved that change can be good. Although they certainly did have a good sound with their light and "airy" hits from the 70s and 80s, this album signaled a radical departure for them. It is more creative and features much better material. Songs such as "She's Got the Answer" and "Dancing With the Mountain" are great examples. Creative, melodic, and featuring a good use of both vocalists. Russell Hitchcock is obviously the better of the two, but the switching back and forth was used very effectively on this effort! Even the rather syrupy "The Earth Is" is an enjoyable "anthem" to save the earth. All in all, with this album, Air Supply became a much more interesting album, and paved the way for their future efforts, culminating in their finest effort, "The Vanishing Race." If you like "The Earth Is," you'll really like "Vanishing Race.""
A very good album by one of the greats.

"Air Supply is one of the best contemporary artists ever; and although their popularity died in the mid 80's, they never stopped making great music. This album pretty much proves that fact. The first half of the album is awesome, with "Stronger Than The Night" and "Speaking of Love" being the best. The second half, however, is not so good. Nevertheless, Russell Hitchcock's vocals are fantastic, and Graham Russell is also good. This album is definately worth a listen."
A stark departure from the duo's traditional sounds...

"A very different direction for Air Supply was achieved on this record. The duo showcased their ability to change with the times. Gone are the sappy melodic pop ballads that made the duo famous in the 1980's and enter a direct evolution for the band who matured greatly with this record. This was the first record after Air Supply split briefly. I think that Russell Hitchcock and Graham Russell realized they needed each other to stay successful and employed in the music industry. Bottom line is that this album delivers and goes down as one of the great one's out of their huge catalog of albums. "Stonger Than The Night, Dame Amore, Dancing With The Mountain, The Earth Is" & one of my favorites from the duo "Bread And Blood" make this album a MUST HAVE for any Air Supply fan!"
