Synopsis

Album Description
Like the ''Late Night Tales'' series of mix CDs, ''Only After Dark'' sees Duran Duran's Nick Rhodes and John Taylor picking favorite songs that both influenced and inspired them in their formative years. From edgy rock and punk (Iggy Pop, David Bowie, Mick Ronson,Wire, Magazine) to trendsetting electronic pop and disco (Kraftwerk, The Normal, Yellow Magic Orchestra, Donna Summer, Grace Jones), the ever-changing sonic soundscape of late '70s/early '80s English nightclubs was bound to inspire many bands, leading to the 'New Romantic' movement led by Duran Duran. EMI. 2006.

CD Reviews

Great electro collection
jwc53531 | santa barbara, ca | 05/18/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"a very good collection of (mostly) early 80s electro tunes - some you would expect (Human League's 'Being Boiled', Ultravox's 'Slow Motion' and other usual suspects like The Normal, Donna Summer, Tubeway Army, Magazine, Kraftwerk etc) but some nice bumps in the road ie Psychedelic Furs 'Sister Europe', Simple Minds 'Changeling' and even Bowie's 'Crashing Cars' plus Byran Ferry's all-star version of 'The In Crowd' and one by the late, great Mick Ronson

the production is excellent although oddly enough there is no song listing (but you'll recognize them all anyways, won't you) - it's an import and therefore pricey but an easy way to get all these terrific songs on one CD

mine came with two discs but they appear to be the same - maybe it was supposed to include a booklet? Anyone else get this?

recommended"
