CD Reviews

Fun for old people too!

"As a teenage Christians in the late 70's and early 80's, my friends and I were starved for music that reflected our beliefs but also moved us musically. Then we had a few quality examples in an early time of developing Christian rock music that was mostly ernest but BORING. As a father of teenagers now I have never been more excited by some of the music I am hearing as of late, music that recalls that feeling I WANTED to have as that young teenage Christian. After Edmund creates a sense of excitement and musical joy in me that few bands of any genre have done in since i was that teenager. After Edmund is quality music and that their worldview reflects a Christian perspective just adds to that. Hello stands up to anything out there today on any place on the radio dial. I cannot add to anything the other positive reviewers have said other than this is a band and music I have waited for for almost 30 years! Also check out Anberlin and Ivoryline."
It's like American-ized British Rock with twice the energy.

"Hello.

But that's not all that After Edmund wants to say with their debut. You're greeting is going to be a little over 40 minutes of layered guitars, synthesizers, infectious hooks, thoughtful lyrics, and smooth rhythms. This album captures a sound that most bands could only dream of - and it's just a debut. It ranges from the provoking to the rocking and everywhere between. There's a lot of substance to the musicianship here, but thankfully it's all very natural and doesn't sound like a studio album that took 2 hours to record and 3 months to tweak. It's hopeful Christian messages are encouraging and honest, and every song points to hope in a Savior. The writing itself is excellent, poignant, and poetic. It's different. It's fresh. It shows unbelievable potential in this band, who apparently already know fully well how to write extremely harmonic guitar duals and rhythms. It's not perfect in every way, but it comes pretty darn close for a debut. All this is set to a melodic, layered guitar and synth combination that is so catchy that I could not do this album justice if I did not give my salutations with one word:

Hello."
Excellent Debut Album, Top 10 of 2008!

"After Edmund is a great example of the new wave of Christian rock bands that have come out in the last few years. Similar sound to MuteMath, The Fray and Snow Patrol on the mainstream side (all favorites of mine) and Leeland, Deas Vail and Ruth (my favorite new Christian bands). "Thank God" kicks it off, and I find "Fighting For Your Heart" "Come and Rain Down" and "Like A Dream" to be the other highlights. Excellent debut album and top 10 of 2008 in my opinion!
