CD Reviews

Relaxing and novel

"adriana's whispery sensual voice is innocent and relaxing... she is the perfect singer to put on while in bed reading a good book or just lying on your brazilian balcony in a hammock staring out at the stars of the southern sky... if you love brazilian female singers like marisa monte or gal costa, her soft tone will remind you of them, but will refresh you with more up-to-date sounds... i've listened to this beautiful album dozens of times and never tire of it..."
Incredible CD

"I experimented with this CD after reading a few of the reviews below. What a great idea! This is now one of my all-time favorite CD's. I have been collecting Brazilian music for a couple of years now and Adrianna Calconhotto (pronounced: Kalkonyotto)is both vocally and lyrically fascinating, haunting and truly compelling. A must have for any collection."
Sensual, exotic and wonderful

(4 out of 5 stars)

"I first heard Adriana Calcanhoto's sensual and soothing voice in a taxi cab, and had to ask the driver about it. He kindly wrote down the name of the singer and thanks to Amazon, and a few dollars I can enjoy her at my leisure. I am glad I did, she is a real talent and the arrangements are an eclectic mix of instruments and styles, from cello to electronica and nod towards rap in a couple of the tracks (my Portuguese is non-existent, unfortunately). Sometimes I am reminded of Patricia Barber with her use of spoken word, and deliberate dissonance. The only track that I dislike is "Music/Impressive Instant", which makes the serious error of trying to use an English lyric. Just skip it and enjoy the rest of the album. My only other gripe is that the mastering is a bit too hot, i.e., overcompressed. Hence 4 stars instead of 5. Cantada"
