CD Reviews

This is the one to get!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"If you're looking for an Ace Of Base greatest hits cd, get this one. All the hits are here and the remastering sounds great. It's important to note that this cd includes the complete version of "The Sign." The other two greatest hits sets cut off the first note of the song. The only thing keeping this cd from being perfect is that "Cruel Summer" is a remix, not the U.S. single version. Other than that, it's all good. If you like Ace Of Base or just good pop music, please get this cd."
Review Based on K2 remastering of this release

"First off...this review is primarily based on the K2 remastering of this CD and not particularly on the content. As the versions of the songs are the same as on the original 1999 release of the album.

This version has been remastered in K2 24bit processing. There is minimal information I could find on this mastering process but since I was a fan of Ace of BAse realized I would try it out since Amazon had it available[they shipped it VERY QUICK I may add for being in limited stock (less than a week)]. Anyhow...first off...the extra photos a user posted must be of the original 1999 release as this version is NOT a blue case with the LOGO etched into it like the original but simply the blue layer and logo over the cover of all the combined single covers. The case is clear with this blue cover giving off the same look. The "english" booklet is virtually identical to the original 99 release as well(with the exception of the cover as previously noted)...only the bonus tracks and remastering info are listed on the japanese shoulder insert and booklet insert. As far as the mastering goes...it is the best you are going to get of any of the songs. Even including the european collections that were released after this one in 2005 do not compare to the mastering of this version. All of the tracks basically have a softer more clearer sound and are significantly louder. I've compared several tracks in sound editors to the original release from 99 and all are different waveforms on this version than the original release. The only track that I don't feel benefits much from the this remastering is "everytime it rains"...the whole track feels very blended...don't get me wrong it sounds great but the bass seems to drown out some of the vocals. All in all...the tracks that benefit most ironically are mostly the newer tracks "C'est la vie", "Love in December", and "hallo, hallo". The older tracks "Wheel of Fortune", "Beautiful Life", "Living in Danger", and "All That She Wants" benefit really high from this new mastering as well. I particularly noted parts of the songs I didn't notice before. Overall...if you're an audiophile who likes Ace of Base you will want this. and if you are a diehard Ace of Base fan you will love this too...I can't wait to get all of their albums in this remastering process! I'm hoping they will be just as stellar!"
