Synopsis

One of Christian music's top vocal bands, Acappella takes a different course for this 1994 album. Instead of a new set of Keith Lancaster originals, Hymns consists of a selection of traditional hymns, which may sound stodgy, especially when the first track begins in very straight TTBB fashion. Soon it breaks into a familiar groove, however, and with it comes the eclectic style that makes Acappella one of the more interesting groups to listen to. For example, the distinctly technofunk "Rock of Ages" gives way to the medieval opening of "Holy, Holy, Holy," followed by the finger-snapping "In the Garden." A number of the hymns are presented in different languages, including Russian, French, and Spanish, and a large stable of voices occasionally backs up the four principal singers (Duane Adams, Robert C. Guy, Gary Moyers, and George Pendergrass). This album may not be the most representative introduction if you're not familiar with Acappella, but fans shouldn't miss it. --David Horiuchi

Hymns For All The World

"Each morning when I wake up, I usually lay in bed and listen to a good portion of an Acappella Company CD before I begin to get ready for school. This morning, I was listening to "Hymns For All The World." Hymns For All The World is one of my most favorite albums. "Just As I Am," brings me so close to GOD, and it brings tears to my eyes just listening to it. "Softly and Tenderly" does the same. But probably my favorite from the album is "Amazing Grace." Many times, I lay on the floor, turn the lights out and listened to it. I've done this many times before, but each time I hear it, it just seems to get more and more beautiful. The peaceful whistling and humming in the beginning relaxes my mind for such a humbling message... It's loaded with melodies that stay in my head, and it really adds to the beauty of the song. I think I have heard that particular song 20 times today. I just can't get enough of it.All it takes is one listen!"
One of their best!

"I have listened to Acapella for years and love their work. This one, like the others, is wonderful. It takes a step toward other cultures that other albums haven't."
Fantastico!

"Quite a stretch for a company based in Tennessee. Others have favorably commented on the various lingual pronunciations. I enjoyed the renditions of hymns mixed with many languages. This was no small feat. Listen to the hymns, notably "Just as I am", "All Hail the Power"and decide for yourself if Acapella doesn't bring new life to these favorites. The joy they produce is very worthwhile."
