Synopsis
Album Description Anthony Kellman, already an established Caribbean poet, sustains his knack for the experimental with his CD, WINGS OF A STRANGER, a combination of songs and spoken word tracks that explore the nature of reconciliation at the personal, historical, social, and spiritual levels. Featuring his acoustic Tuk (Tuk music is the indigenous folk music of Barbados) fused with European folk, the album is fresh, socially conscious, and ground-breaking. Kellman's backing band have their fingers on the pulse of his intentions, a pulsating and soothing array of island rhythms that complement his lyrical gems and poetical genius. |
CD ReviewsKellman's CD is a winner 10/23/2000 (5 out of 5 stars) "WINGS OF A STRANGER by Anthony Kellman is a refreshing breeze in an otherwise cluttered world of music and voice. I am familiar with Kellman's poetry and was excited when I found out about the CD. I thought it would be a long list of poems read by the poet as another spoken word work. I was surprised to hear music: guitar, violin, drums and singing. In this work music is not background but another voice tuned to the voice of the poet. The poems are enhanced by the music and the music soars with the words. The songs are equally gifted and work as poetry while still being song. The lyrics of the songs are thought provoking and engages the listener in an internal dialogue with the singer and his world. I would encourage poetry and music lovers to purchase this work and enter the world of the winged stranger."
