Schiff's performance makes this a must-have.

"The Academy of St. Martin-in-the-fields is adequate, providing a decent if not thrilling accompaniment. No matter; you didn't buy this CD to listen to the orchestra. Schiff's performance has gusto and energy that brings Vivaldi to life. His bow work is strong and powerful, never so airy that you hear more "huff" than note.

It is one of the finest cello performances I've ever heard, and easily the best performance of Vivaldi. Compare with Rostropovich, whose interpretation is as accurate but much less thrilling. Schiff brings a vitality to the music that it lacks even in other capable hands."
