Synopsis

Product Description
If forced to describe Alaskan heavy metal unit 36 Crazyfists in just a single word, you might want to go with persistent. "Collisions and Castaways", the band's forthcoming second set for Ferret Music, was written and recorded between October 2009 and May 2010 and is scheduled for release July 27, 2010. It follows on the heels of last year's DVD outing, "Underneath a Northern Sky", and is the band's second straight effort to feature guitarist Steve Holt in the producer's chair and Andy Sneap handling the final mix.

CD Reviews

Same Old, But With A Twist

"36 Crazyfists is a band with its own distinctive rule and whether people think it should be that way or not is irrelevant... they have a unique and compelling sound that has rocked its solid fan base for more than a decade.

Collisions and Castaways was worth the wait in that it follows on the heels of their breakthrough album "The Tide And Its Takers", but adds a metal twist to it that is very much in your face during the album's 45 minutes running time. Guitarist Steve Holt was once again in the producer's chair and I can't wait to see how the band approaches the new songs live, with all the different textures and double-guitar layering going on on the new album.

Cannot say enough about this band I've been following since the very beginning... I like to say they are the best unknown band out there."
Everything You've Come To Expect And Much, Much More

"I would say it probably seems to be a cliché to talk about how a band has evolved from every album they've done. In the case of 36 Crazyfists, they've managed to keep it going by changing things up while keeping it consistent. For Collisions And Castaways, they've kept it somewhat safe: guitarist Steve Holt once again handling production duties, and Andy Sneap (Megadeth, Chimaira, Exodus) mixing and mastering (his 4th time for the band in their 5 album career). They even invited friend Adam Jackson of Twelve Tribes to do guest vocals like he had done on the previous record. That's where keeping it safe ends however as they've taken the groundwork they had previously laid out for The Tide And It's Takers, and totally went for broke in making some of the darkest and most aggressive material they've ever done. I'm not kidding. Opening track "In The Midnights" starts off "Battery"-style with acoustic guitars before erupting into full blown chaos, and that's just an example. One great track (and I'm sure fans of Snow Capped Romance will love it) is "Waterhaul II," which musically even starts off with an eerie soundscape that permeated the first before exploding into familiar territory with razorsharp guitars and bass, blistering drumwork, and nerve-rattling vocals. It's a proper sequel to the original "Waterhaul" track (not a rehash by any means) that I'm sure will bring fans back to when they first heard it and being amazed as I was. This is a great album that once again proves the band is getting better and better all the time, and I look forward to more great music from this band in the years to come."

"These guys have made an amazing album. I really got into 36CF during the "A Snow Capped Romance" days. I liked the next couple albums but not as much as ASCR. This album kicks everything they have done in the past up a notch. Most of the songs make me want to destroy something (in a good way). You can tell they have been touring with some heavy acts and the influence has been good. Fortunately it's not all scream and pound on things. There is definitely melody even if it's hidden a bit and will take a few listens to really appreciate. I am a fan of everything from Johnny Cash to Fear Factory and I can say 36CF will please anyone who really loves hard music with a good message and a little variety. Now the real treat is to see them live. NO-ONE can match the energy these guys put out in a live show!"
