Synopsis

Album Description
Debut album from Canadian former hardcore kids who decided that irony-free sword and sorcery metal with titles like 'Destroy The Orcs' was a lot more fun. Combining the pomp and grandiosity of old-school metal with the aggression and cheap production values of punk, this has drawn favourable comparisons in the rock press with early Iron Maiden.

Much respect

"These guys definitly are amazing. They play heavy metal in the purest form, and it's so refreshing. You can tell they are influenced by Maiden but still have a completely new and fresh style that I'm sure will be embraced by a much larger metal community in the near future.
Track list is:
1. Ride Darkhorse, Ride
2. Destroy the Orcs
3. Headwaters of the River of Blood
4. Heir to the Chaos Throne
5. Skeletal Onslaught
6. Journey to the Promised Land
7. Lady Deathwish
8. Curse of the Lighthouse Keeper
9. Blazing Fires of Evermore
10. Hall of Heros
11. Balls of IceHighlights include the insane opening track, Destroy the Orcs, Curse of the Lighthouse Keeper, Hall of Heros with it's brilliant guitar work, and one of metal's best songs in a while... Balls of Ice. When I hear that opening little riff for that song I lose control. I go more nuts for that song in concert than any song I have ever seen played live.
Three Inches live is a must, and so is this album. Packed with metal to spare, it will scratch that itch that you old schoolers have had since the late 80's, as well as give new metalheads something that won't leave the cd player for quite some time."
On the footsteps of Manowar

"This is the way Manowar should have gone after "Kings Of Metal"...Great gothic black classic heavy metal...A must buy for all who have anything to do with METAL !!!"
Long awaited re-issue does not disappoint

"I've been a fan of 3 Inches of Blood for a while now, but I was never able to get a copy of their debut full-length, Battlecry Under a Winter Sun. It was long out of print and the copies that could be found were prohibitively expensive, for the most part. Then early this year, it was rereleased to my (and no doubt many others') excitement. This release contains the album Battlecry Under a Winter Sun along with the bonus tracks, which are taken from the 2001 demo Cult of the White Worm. They left one song from the demo off though, I'm not sure why because it would have easily fit on the CD, but whatever.

The recording is a little rough compared to their later, Roadrunner-produced albums, but it's their first release so what do you expect really? Which is not to say that it doesn't sound good, because it sounds just fine. Better than most bands' first recordings. It has the same basic style that they are known for, but in its early stages. So if you want to see where 3 Inches of Blood came from (or just want an awesome metal album), this is a must buy."
