Released in 1978, Mansion Builder would feature 11 songs that had as its major theme welcoming the joyful return of Christ. Most of the songs were written by Annie with the exception of the soulful Psalm 93 which was written by Matthew and the group's keyboard player Richard Souther. Also, "Make My Life a Prayer to You" was provided to the project by new Christians and friends Kieth and Melody Green. Nelly would sing the lead to this tune. Mansion Builder features the title cut "Mansion Builder" that would become 2nd Chapter's biggest and most popular hit next to "Easter Song".

"Composed almost entirely of well written, memorable songs by Annie Herring, Mansion Builder is a salient reminder of the height of the Jesus Movement of the Nineteen-Seventies when many young people were searching for meaning, and reacting against the so-called "drug culture" so prevalent then. Even its weakest tune, "Make My Life a Prayer to You" (by Melody Green), stands out as an important statement of faith and devotion, entirely in step with that moment. Well rooted in both Gospel and Pop, The 2nd Chapter of Acts' Mansion Builder shines, and may well be their finest 32 and a half minutes."

"I read the review of "Mansion Builder" in Christian Life magazine when it first came out, and the reviewer said there was no "Easter Song" on the project. Not true: The title track is almost on the level of "Easter Song", and should be in modern hymnals.
Favorite songs on this includes "Rod and Staff", "Mansion Builder", "Psalm 63", "I'll Give My Life Away", "Well, Haven't You Heard?", "Lightning Flash", and Nelly Greisen's recording of Melody Green's "Make My Life A Prayer To You" (one of the rare songs not written by Annie Herring)."
