CD Reviews

Excellent French Language Teaching Material
gradina@innet.com | Spring Hill, Fl.;USA | 09/08/1999

"The diction of the voices is superb, this is truly French Folk music at its best. The enclosed text covering all songs is of great help for those learning the language. Would recommend it to all Frech expatriate mothers with young children and for mature French grandmothers living in the USA who would want to sing along these songs to their grandchildren. And for all French language teachers, try this CD too, if nothing else you will like it too."
Good for those learning French, not great music

"I teach French in an elementary school and I bought this CD in hopes it would be child friendly as the bright cover suggests with the balloons hovering around the Tour Eiffel. The French songs on this CD are much like our songs in English of "Mary Had a Little Lamb", "Henry VIII", and "Baa Baa Black Sheep" so don't be expecting any French songs that are comparable to our "American Pie", "Piano Man", etc. The musical accompaniment is beautiful, almost too powerful and too much as it takes away from the singers. While the singers are talented, their voices should be used to sing musicals and operas, not folk music. The songs are kid songs/folk songs, but this is not a fun Peter, Paul, & Mary type of CD. It does not appeal to a young audience. The singers do sing clearly, articulating the words with a very strong and definite French accent. Every syllable is enunciated and as added help, the lyrics to all of the songs are included. I recommend the song "J'ai du bon tabac" as it has a sweet, cute, simple melody to it that listeners will find catchy. Overall, despite a few bad points, this CD is a very good pick to add to the collection of those who are learning French or those who would like to become familiar with traditional French songs."
Lovely Songs, Nice teaching Materials

"This CD or Cassette, includes the most wonderfull, close to heart 24 French Folk songs, such as "Frere Jacques, Savez vous plantez les Choux, Au Calire de la Lune, Etc.." that you can listen to some over the amzon.com plus. Many of those French songs are simialr to some English songs such as "Mary has a little Lamb".
The music is so beautifull, but as the other reviewere (music fan) mentioned, it took to some extent the great talented performance of the signers, who both have an amazingly gorgeous voice.
The accompinying text is a very appreciated help if you are either learning or refreching French. I would recommend this Audio to every body intrested in French, and Folk Songs."
