CD Reviews

It grows on you, but it's still not the original group.

"I really miss the old 2 Unlimited group. I thought that the female singer had one of the most unusual and unique voices in dance music ever. I have no idea what happened to them, but it's nice to see the 2 Unlimited name still on a cd, even if Anita and Ray have been since replaced by two girls. The new vocals are fairly good, and some of the synth sounds are mildly similar to the "sound" of 2 Unlimited, but it's still a far cry from the greatness of the original band members Anita, and Ray with his techno raps. I'm not a fan of the techno genre, but i liked the original sound of 2 Unlimited because it wasn't generic-sounding techno, and i actually found their music to have a nice blend of the vocals and the beats. I also found that Anita and Ray had a really good vocal chemistry that is just plain gone from the new 2 Unlimited. I wasn't overly thrilled with the new 2 Unlimited sound, and find that it sounds too much like the generic disposable dance club stuff that has been cranked out since the mid to late 90s. Some of the songs on this cd are okay and stand out from the others, but in general this is pretty unremarkable stuff. It's a big disappointment if you've heard any of the original 2 Unlimited stuff with Anita and Ray. If you can find their cds, i recommend Real Things and No Limits. Those are the two best cds they ever did and i give those two cds five stars. The new cd gets a generous 3. No more."

"Although not entirely like the original 2 Unlimited, I am just happy to see that the 2 Unlimited name is still alive. Most of the tracks do either come close or match the original groups material. If anything the producers got two very good vocalists that can sing better than your average generic female vocalist. My favourite track is "The Edge of Heaven", which is a powerful, intense, techno track which is better than most of what is on U.S. dance music radio. Overall, a worthwhile album."
