"That is the only word to describe this collection of some of the greatest organ music ever written. Two full discs of German works and although it is not the French Romantic school, my favorite, several of the composers could have fit in quite easily - Ritter and Rheinberger in particular. Where to start? Well how about the Fourth Sonata by Ritter based on the old Dutch hymn "Wien neerlandsh bloed". It is both a chorale with variations which turns into a fugue. One hears the peace slowly accelerate, adding sound tones, becoming denser and faster until the ending - fabulous.

The chorale preludes were beautiful, so Brahmsian as was the Mendelssohn's F Minor. I would really have preferred one of Rheinberger's Sonanas rather than the two offerings here which, frankly, cannot show the man's genius. The Sonata by Reubke was a tad slow but nothing will ever equal the performance by Anthony Newman who brought out every inner rhythm in the piece. To tell the truth I'd never heard of Ms Terry but her technique was flawless and truly "in the German tradition." My Grade - A"
